Come and enjoy the annual FENCE Barn Tour that has been expanded for your enjoyment. This years tour is scheduled from 1:00pm-4:00pm on November 26, 2011

Between 11 am and 1 pm, see exhibitions including Driven Horses, Jumper, Drill Team, Mounted Patroll, Dressage and Driven Mini Ponies. In the afternoon between 1 and 4 pm, visit these farms: Green Gait Farm, McNutt Barn, Freehold Farm, Bright’s Creek Equestrian Center. Dinner available for purchase at Bright’s Creek Golf Club.

Tryon, NC Halloween Stroll

Attention all ghosts, goblins, fairies, and trolls of all ages – it is time to assume your favorite disguise because Monday, October 31st from 4:30 to 6 p.m. is the annual Halloween Stroll in downtown Tryon. Trade Street merchants will decorate their shops to welcome all the creepies and cuties with sweet treats.

Grace Church will turn their space into a winding, twisting Halloween maze and there may be some entertaining skeletons parading around downtown. A decorated “Spookmobile” (aka Polk County Bookmobile) will be on hand with books and treats.

All Beauties and Beasties will assemble at 6 p.m. in the Tryon Movie Theater this year for the costume contest.

St. Francis Fall for Greenville October 14-16, 2011

More than 40 restaurants and more than 20 bands will participate in this weekend’s St. Francis Fall for Greenville.

The festival that has become one of Greenville’s most anticipated events and returns to downtown Oct. 14-16. The festival, in its 30th year, is presented by Pepsi.

The restaurants are offering more than 200 different food items, prepared, cooked fresh and served to festival goers along Main Street. This year’s St. Francis Fall for Greenville will offer 60 different wines from over 10 different countries, a more diverse selection of flavor profiles than ever before! Enjoy tasting some of the best craft brews from around the region at the festival’s Beer Garden. Fill up your cup and stick around for live music on the Carolina Ale House Stage.

From rock to country to jazz and blues, music lovers can enjoy a wide variety of free musical entertainment offered on six stages all weekend long!

Columbus Farm Festival-Saturday October, 1 2011

Residents will have the chance to celebrate Polk County’s agriculture heritage on Saturday, Oct. 1. The Town of Columbus will host the third annual Columbus Farm Festival.
The street will be closed to vehicles but open to pedestrians who have an interest in seeing the farm displays, farm equipment and the items craftsmen will be making.
From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. activities will be held on Mills Street, Stearns Park and in and around the Courthouse Square.
Activities will begin Friday night with the Civil War re-enactors camped out on the Stearns Park lawn.
Saturday offers an array of produce and products in an extended tailgate market.
This year for the first time there will be a “Farm Chef Contest,” in which two different chefs prepare dishes for three judges to taste-test.
There will be farm animals such as draft horses, goats, ducks and chickens on display plus various types of farm equipment. The local horse and buggy team of Caroline and Abraham will be on hand for a narrated tour of the Polk County seat.
The re-enactors from the Civil War will be on hand inside Stearns Park sharing their knowledge of the history about “The War Between The States.”
The Polk County Agriculture Development Office, Town of Columbus and the Polk County Cooperative Extension Center sponsor this event.

Don Principe

As all the local Equestrians know Jennifer Baumert and her new partner, Marydell Farm’s stallion Don Principe are training in Europe with Klaus Balkenhol for the months of August and September. She was also able to take her own horse DeWert. Jennifer has been sending terrific email updates and commentaries on her journey along with pictures. Jennifer says:

“I am having an amazing experience training at Klaus Balkenhol’s stable in Germany. It is through the generosity and support of the equine community that I am able to make this trip with two top horses. I look forward to returning home and sharing what I am learning.”
